Description
A fabulous abstract piece by the renowned artist Alan Davie (1920 to 2014), this is titled ‘Blue Sun’ and is mixed media on board. Davie was born in Scotland and studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Travelling widely, he spent time in Venice, where Peggy Guggenheim bought two of his works in the early part of his career, with a 1956 exhibition in New York selling out. His work is held by many major art galleries and museums, including the Tate, National Galleries of Scotland and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His images are not purely abstract, but have symbolic importance, and he has been influenced by Zen spirituality. Not only working as a visual artist, he was a gifted musician.
