Super Cool Lounge Set – Sofa And Two Chairs, 1965

We absolutely love this set and will be sad to part with it! With its quintessential 1960s style, we can imagine it in a scene from Austin Powers! The set came to the shop with the leatherette in fab condition but the seats looking a little worse for wear and the foam all but perished.

The style, particularly the flared shape of the arms, is very 1960s Italian, but we haven’t found another quite like it in our searches. We do know that it was made in 1965, though, as the original calico had the date March 1965 pencilled on in the factory!

We had big ideas for this one – we knew how well the dark green would match with a punchy retro pattern, so for the cushions we chose Casamance’s Reciproque in the olive colourway, with olive green piping to the edges. Our upholsterer did a fab job, and the cushions are now firm and comfortable and ready to add a vibrant touch to a retro living room.

The chairs’ wooden structures are sound, but Emiel tightened all the lovely dansette legs and replaced the calico to the underside of all the chairs as well as under the cushions, and restitched a single button that had come loose. It’s now ready for its new home.

We think it’d look great in a neutral room as the colours would really pop, but the light green, mustard, olive and brown in the fabric provide lots of options for a perfect decor match! Pair it with a long coffee table or face towards the TV or music centre – it’s quite a compact set, so would be equally comfortable in an apartment or in a lounge in a larger house.
