Stunning set of 8 “SQ-AL” chairs designed by Willy Rizzo for Maison Willy Rizzo in the 1970s, a perfect example of how the design of that era combined luxury, functionality and sophisticated aesthetics.
These chairs stand out for their essential, geometric design, reflecting the modernist approach of Willy Rizzo, known for bringing a touch of glamour to the interiors of those years, as well as for his photographs.
The structure features bold, square lines with a chrome-plated steel base combined with polished brass, a distinctive element of the SQ-ALs, materials that evoke a sense of opulence without ever being excessive.
The seats and backs are upholstered in a gorgeous hand-dyed polychrome period fabric with a floral pattern.
Their design and simple forms are perfectly suited to both residential and contract settings, such as living and dining rooms or high-end offices.
Willy Rizzo’s signature style has always been to combine high-quality materials with minimalist lines, resulting in timeless pieces.
SQ-AL chairs are an emblematic example of this, capable of adding a touch of understated sophistication to any setting. Today they are still in production at the Maison and are highly sought after in the vintage market, precisely because they embody that sophisticated elegance that never goes out of fashion.
Condition is excellent with some minimal patina of time on the brass and seats, a testament to the time and authenticity of this beautiful set.

Willy Rizzo (1928-2013) was an Italian-French photographer and designer known for his glamorous and sophisticated style in both photography and interior design. His career began in photography, working for prestigious magazines such as Paris Match, where he immortalized celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Salvador Dalí, Brigitte Bardot, and Coco Chanel. However, in the 1960s and 1970s, he also established himself as a designer, creating furniture with a luxurious and modernist character. Willy Rizzo revolutionized the concept of furniture with an approach that combined minimalism and opulence. His furniture is distinguished by essential and elegant lines, often enhanced by fine materials such as polished brass, chrome-plated steel, lacquer, and marble. His style was deeply influenced by the world of high fashion and the international jet set, creating pieces with a strong scenic impact, perfect for sophisticated interiors. His most iconic creations include tables, chairs, sofas and sideboards characterized by a clean yet highly sought-after aesthetic. Among his most famous designs are low tables with hidden storage compartments, chairs with geometric structures, and lacquered console tables with metal inserts. The SQ-AL chair, for example, is a perfect example of its ability to combine functionality and elegance. Today, Rizzo’s design is still appreciated and sought after, both in the vintage market and in reissues produced by the Willy Rizzo Maison. His creations remain a symbol of 1970s style, capable of combining glamour and timeless sophistication.
