Description
A charming piece of folk art, this rare child’s sleigh from the Netherlands has been painted with delightful scenes of Dutch life from the late 18th or early 19th century and will look fabulous as an interior decorator’s piece for a nursery.
– Finely painted scenes on both sides and both ends, including frozen landscapes with similar sleighs being pushed by adults with children inside.
– Carved decoration and fretwork, with painted scrolls and patterns.
– Main framework is dark green with a brown tone, with a dark red interior.
– Iron bound runners.
– Turned push bar.
– Removable board inside the front end, allowing children to tuck their feet under easily.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There are some natural shrinkage checking cracks in the wood, as to be expected for a piece of this age.
