The sculpture represents Leda, queen of Sparta, tenderly embracing the swan. Since classical antiquity, she has been one of the most famous subjects in the entire history of art. Zeus, in love with the splendid girl, approached her during a bath in the form of a swan, seduced her and mated with her and from that union, as the myth tells, Castor and Pollux were born.
