A very good and large Italian Art Glass Murano Sommerso Bowl multi-coloured Bowl, signed by Luigi Onesto & Murano. Possibly produced by Onesto after he set-up Oball Murano in 1978 although some resources are dating similar pieces to the 1960’s.

Luigi Onesto was born in Murano into a glass-making family. At the age of 15, he began to learn the secrets of glass as an apprentice at Gambaro & Poggi, one of the oldest and most famous glass factories on the island. In 1978, he established his glass art studio, the Vetreria Artistica Oball. Onesto’s elegant vessels, bottles and objects are created by the technique called sommerso, which incorporates layers of different colors.

Vetreria Artistica Oball, also known as Oball Murano Glass, was founded by Luigi Onesto in 1978 on the island of Murano, Italy. Luigi, a member of a family of glassmakers, developed his skills from a young age, apprenticing at Gambaro & Poggi before establishing his own glassworks. He was later joined by his sons, Fabio and Michele, who now lead the glassworks, continuing the tradition of sommerso glassmaking, a technique where multiple layers of colored glass are fused together, according to MuranoGlassItaly.
