A very fine antique Scottish theme Georgian English solid silver Lancet / Etui Case C.1821
A very fine antique George IV Scottish themed English solid silver Lancet / Etui Case having all over decoration with monogram in shield and a motto in the other shield ‘Dinna Forget’. Hallmarks for Birmingham (please see image) – Maker probably Thomas Willmore
The text states “Dinna Forget”, which means “Do not forget”, and it comes from the old Scottish poem “Dinna forget me”:
DINNA FORGET ME.
The last time we roved through Lochaber’s darkglen,
When the red blooming heather wi’ night dew waswet,
You ken, bonnie lass, what ye promised me then;
You canna forget love ! you canna forget !
You said when the harvest moon blink’d forthagain,
When the gowans’ gay hues and the simmer beamsmet,
That the kirk and the good ring should make youmy ain.
Dinna forget love ! oh, dinna forget !
Ann now the sun glitters o’er braes, and throughbirk ;
Though late in the gloaming his ray lingers yet:
Simmer is come, love ; the ring and the kirk
Dinna forget, love ! oh, dinna forget !
Circa 1821
