Description
This lovely pair of decorative carved wood pieces date to the 17th century and originate from Staffordshire in England. They would originally have been part of a piece of furniture or architectural interior.
– Shaped in the style of caryatids, with column capitals and square plinth bases.
– Carved as two soldiers in the Romanesque style, each holding mirrors or shield shaped objects.
– Beautifully carved, with nicely defined fabric folds.
– Both with flared helmets and one with a moustache.
– Flat backs where they would have been standing against a wall or the flat back of a piece of furniture.
– Green baize on the bases.
– Holes in the top where they would have been attached to an overlying horizontal.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use.
