Description
A rarely available early 17th century fruitwood carved sculpture, this likely depicts St. Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, holding a book in her right hand. At 65 cm in height, it is an ideal size for decorative display.
– Gold or bronze coloured paint across the piece on a gesso base.
– Nicely carved fold to the robes.
– Rough hewn back.
In sturdy condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There are signs of old woodworm throughout, with related damage around the area where the hand is holding the book and also at the base.
