Extraordinary and very rare bed designed by Osvaldo Borsani and produced by the Borsani Varedo company between 1956 and 1959.
The bed is made entirely of hammered brass castings and bronze plates, with horizontal decorative elements in metallic enamels with abstract concave and convex shapes from the early years of the great Master’s work.
A work of applied art of great workmanship and importance where the young experimental hand of the master is evident, still at the dawn of that aesthetic that would later characterise his entire life’s work.
Currently the only one on the market in this version with 3 rows of rings, two large ones above and below and a smaller one in the centre with the artist’s plates inside, probably one of the first produced and with a very important history.
This precise model with a 3-row variant was the direct inspiration for the great artist and furniture maker Luciano Frigerio in the creation of his first cast brass bed, the “Thailandia” model in collaboration with the designers Ciansky and Scelba in the late 1960s, after which Frigerio in Desio began producing cast brass sculpture beds that lasted for decades.
The work was confirmed by the Osvaldo Borsani Archive and is listed under archive number 8605 of 1959.
The bed is in excellent original condition with the original patina of the time, it has only been cleaned but not polished so as not to change the history of its almost 80 years, at the discretion of the collector whether to keep it in its original state or want it as new.
