Beautiful drainer or plate made in the 1960s by Renato Toso for the historic and important family business Fratelli Toso.
Renato Toso was one of those designers who were able to reinterpret the tradition of Murano glass without ever betraying its essence.
Raised in a family environment connected to design and art, he has always had an experimental approach, trying to combine Murano craftsmanship with a more contemporary language.
What made him innovative was not only his use of traditional techniques, but the way he reinvented them.
He played with transparency, overlapping layers, color, and shapes, creating objects that were not simply furnishing accessories, but true functional works of art, and this tidy up is a splendid example.
Made of clear and red glass, it was handcrafted in Venetian furnaces in the late 1960s and still bears the original production label.

Renato Toso was an Italian designer who was able to reinterpret the tradition of Murano glass with an innovative and experimental approach. Born into a family deeply attached to this ancient art, he worked for the historic Fratelli Toso glassworks, founded in 1854, helping to modernize its style without ever betraying its essence. His research has focused on the fusion of Murano craftsmanship and a more contemporary language, experimenting with transparencies, overlapping layers, color plays and original shapes. What made him unique was the way he reworked traditional techniques, creating objects that were not only decorative but also functional, turning glass into an expressive and modern element. In addition to working with his family business, he has collaborated with several companies in the design world, expanding his scope to include lighting and furniture. His works from the 1960s and 1970s are particularly sought after by collectors today for their ability to combine tradition and innovation, demonstrating how Murano glass can be a timeless material capable of adapting to new aesthetic visions. His contribution has left an important mark on the history of design, keeping the great legacy of Murano art alive and projecting it into the future.
