16th Century Reliquary Bust of the Blessed Virgin

A charming wooden reliquary bust in the form of the Virgin Mary, this will originally have been displayed in a French church and will make a wonderful decorative piece for those looking for a true antique which is now nearly 500 years old.

– Beautifully carved features and fabric folds.
– Oval recess to the front which would have contained a holy relic associated with the Blessed Virgin.
– Reliquaries such as this were commonly used in churches during processions and to ornament altars, especially during important feasts.

In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There is some minor woodworm damage to the base, as to be expected for a piece of this age.
