19th Century Fine Needlework Sampler

A finely sewn needlework sampler from the mid 19th century, this has some charming motifs and is one for the collector.

– Poem at the top, signed at the bottom as Esther Smith, Age 11, June 1 (18)47.
– Flower border.
– Pair of large butterflies below a house, which has birds flying overhead.
– Green and brown colour palette, with cream fabric background.
– Wooden frame.

In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There are some small holes in the fabric around the framed edge which are not obtrusive.
