Rare and stunning “Coupé” sofa bed by Mario Bellini and produced by Cassina in 1976, which features an essential yet sophisticated structure, characterised by soft lines and harmonious proportions.
Its design conveys a sense of lightness and elegance, thanks to the sinuous shapes that outline the headboard and side armrests.
The frame is covered in a light-coloured fabric, probably linen or raw cotton, stretched and tightly fitting to the bed frame.
The joints are highlighted by leather profiles and zippers that enhance the artisan precision and refined design, which allow for disassembly.
The headboard and side rails have a wavy shape, creating a soft and welcoming visual effect, almost like an embrace that envelops the sleeping space.
The bed rests on small, barely visible black feet that lift it off the ground just enough to give it a light, slender appearance. The mattress support base is made of a tightly woven metal mesh, a guarantee of breathability and comfort, which accommodates a single mattress of standard dimensions 80x190cm.
The clean and timeless aesthetics of the “Coupé” bed makes it suitable for different types of environments, from the most classic to the most contemporary, from the bedroom to the living room.
The reference to vintage carriages in the curved profile of the headboard and sides suggests a retro elegance, reinterpreted in a modern key through minimal materials and details. A piece of furniture that combines functionality and beauty, in perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
The name “Coupé” derives from horse-drawn carriages, reflecting Bellini’s intent to connect the world of elite design with real life and its historical roots.
Very rare and collector’s item, it is in excellent general condition with tiny signs of aging given its almost 50 years, as shown in the photographs, it will be shipped disassembled to reduce transport costs.
